WEAR SCIENCES AND COATINGS GROUP
Custom Products and Coatings Development - The Wear Sciences and Coating Group of TA&T works with customers to develop novel thin film coatings and hardware to address issues of friction, wear, corrosion, and erosion. For example, a thin film coating with tailored electronic properties was developed for use on the Genisis solar particle collector. A water-activated solid lubricant was developed for gear pumps in USN torpedos resulting in extended service life for repeated firings required for torpedo training. Corrosion resistant coatings developed by WSCG have exhibited outstanding performance in use on USAF aircraft. Thin film coatings to mitigate hydrogen embrittlement in fuel cells have demonstrated impressive results. Automotive paint applicators experiencing excessive wear due to mica inclusion have been treated with a graded multilayer coating developed by WSCG resulting in doubling of service life.
