Ceramic Matrix Composites
Ceramic Composites, Inc. (CCI), a subsidiary of TA&T, specializes in the development and fabrication of continuous and discontinuous fiber reinforced refractory ceramic, graded ceramic and graded refractory metal-ceramic composites via a combination of chemical vapor infiltration (CVI), polymer infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP) and hot pressing. A large variety of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) ceramic and refractory metal coatings are also produced by CCI.
Thin Films & Coatings
The Wear Sciences and Coatings Group (WSCG) of TA&T specializes in nanometer thin, multilayer sputtering coatings, principally for wear, lubrication and corrosion applications. WSCG also has unique characterization capabilities for assessing the friction and wear behavior of coatings and materials in vacuum, high temperature, steam and salt environments.
Spinel & Optical Ceramics
The Spinel Group concentrates on the development and production of transparent magnesium aluminate spinel armor and optical system components for a wide variety of end use applications. The wide band transparency (UV through the mid IR), high hardness, dielectric and ballistic properties make spinel an attractive choice for electro-optical sensors, laser-RF communications, and vehicular and aircraft ballistic protection.
Ceramic Micro Devices
The Ceramic Micro-Devices Group (CMDG) specializes in the design and direct manufacturing via laser stereolithography of unique structures for a host of thermal, microelectronic and propellant management applications. The layer by layer process of stereolithography enables the fabrication of precise, intricate structures and associated properties that are impossible to achieve by conventional processes.
Carbon Foams
Ceramic Composites, Inc. has mounted a major effort in Structurally Enhanced Carbon Foams over the past two years. Exploitation of the remarkable thermal properties of carbon foams has been short circuited by the inherent low strength of the foam cell structures. CCI's process for strengthening weak carbon foams without degrading their thermal properties is leading to a host of promising applications.
Consulting
TA&T has performed numerous assessments for government agencies such as SDIO, BMDO, DARPA and the AIR FORCE on a wide variety of advanced materials, manufacturing and device applications. Areas of specialty are tribology, ceramics, direct manufacturing, micro-devices, and technology transfer.
