Fiber Interface Coatings - CCI can deposit both the standard carbon and boron nitride fiber interface coatings for use in ceramic matrix composites. In addition, multi-layered fiber interface coatings for advanced high temperature composites have been developed. One was based on a C-SiC-TiC trilayer system. Multiple layers of this trilayer system have also been examined. The second was a Ti3SiC2 coating. Both interface coatings were developed for ceramic matrix composites to be used in high temperature propulsion component applications. Both these systems demonstrated outstanding oxidation resistance for both the SiCf/SiC and Cf/SiC composite systems while providing the desired mechanical properties. CCI's automated process control system enables a high level of reproducibility.
